When we were searching for possible honeymoon locations, we didn’t want to get stuck at a usual tourist destination with too much crowd and noise. We spent hours on google, looking. Finally a friend working in a tour operation company gave us a fantastic recommendation; for which we will for ever be thankful to her. We had never heard of Meghamalai. We got on the website and searched for a good accommodation. We didn’t see much choices. Briar Tea Bungalow looked promising. So we did an early booking forBriar Cloud Mountain Bungalow.
It’s about 3 hours drive from Kumily. We were traveling in an SUV. That was a wise choice, because the road is rugged. But now construction is going on for an excellent road. It should be complete real soon.
Meghamalai, also know as the Highwavys is located in the Western Ghats. Located 1500 m above sea level, it is cool and pleasant. The plantation and the Bungalow are placed in between 2 highly protected Reserve forests. So there is very little human intervention in this area. The only people you are likely to see are the plantation employees. The cloud wrapped blue mountains surrounding the Bungaloware truly picturesque all through the day.
To be honest, we had way too much privacy than we expected to have in any resort. We were there for 3 days. We did plenty of walking, saw many small animals like, deer, wild fowls, rabbits, elephants on the side of a green hill and a variety of rare birds. The compound has a well maintained flower garden, which gave us many fantastic photo options. Our guide was kind enough to take some pictures of us together.
We had a dedicated chef with a courteous service staff. The food was excellent. Our room was real spacious, with an equally spacious bathroom. Colonial style furniture gave such a nostalgic feel. If there are any honeymooners trying to figure out where to go, Meghamalai Briar Tea Bungalow is the ideal place.
